Effect of External Pudendal Artery Infusion of Lipopolysaccharide on Clinic Symptoms and White Blood Cells in Dairy Cows

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of external pudendal artery infusion of lipopolysaccharide(LPS) on clinic symptoms and white blood cells count. Six Chinese Holstein cows were infused with LPS or saline in a crossover design,each period lasted 1 week,three of these cows were infused with LPS(Escherichia coli 0111: B4,0.01 μg LPS/kg body weight) in the external pudendal artery,and the other 3 cows were infused with saline in the external pudendal artery.The results showed that respiratory rate was significantly affected by LPS infusion(P＜0.01),it reached the highest level after 3 h of LPS infusion. Rectal temperature was not affected by LPS infusion, pulse rate was significantly affected by LPS infusion(P＜0.01),it reached the highest level after 6 h of LPS infusion. The white blood cells count was significantly affected by LPS infusion(P＜0.01). So,infusion of LPS affect the clinic symptoms and white blood cells count, and it has no influence on WBC’s differential count.
